UML: A Survey Focused On Use Case Modeling

The Uniied Modeling Language (UML) has been in the past years established as an industry standard for object-oriented model-ing. Its ability, however, to serve as an ee-cient requirements speciication tool is highly debated. In this paper, an attempt is made to present an overview of the language focused on use case modeling, which is the language's technique for capturing the system requirements. The usefulness, drawbacks and possible solutions or alternatives to the deeciencies of UML use case modeling are discussed. In addition, the question of whether or not UML should be thought of (and therefore criticized) as a semi-formal requirements speciication language is addressed.
